Welcome to Las Vegas!

Living in Las Vegas
- This is what we locals get to live with everyday ...

•The beautiful Sierra Nevada and Wasatch Mountains (especially in the winter when they're tipped with snow) surrounding the wide Las Vegas basin that doesn't confine us ...
•Stunningly beautiful desert...
•Palm trees, all kinds...
•Lots of friendly, happy people, good natured - we think the sunny Las Vegas weather influences us...
•Maybe not a lot of grass but then I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they miss their lawnmower!
•And balmy evenings with lights of twinkling lights and views.

I could go on and on.....

There is always something to do...
•A wide range of activities and sports in Las Vegas, Nascar, National Finals Rodeo (NFR)
•Plays, shows, concerts
Art in Las Vegas - The Las Vegas art district with excellent galleries, performing art centers
•Las Vegas public sports centers
•Culture, energy and sports, baseball and football that comes with being a University City
•Great Las Vegas  skiing is only about an hour away
•There's plenty of golf in Las Vegas, I think about 14 public courses and many private clubs
•There are more than 65 public Las Vegas parks
•Public swimming pools
Las Vegas Senior centers
•Las Vegas recreational centers

About a half-hour southeast of Las Vegas, through Henderson and near Boulder City is Lake Mead National Recreation  Area  which includes the largest man-made lake in the world, covers 1.5 million acres and provides us with year round water activities.

If you like hiking, rock climbing, cycling or just sightseeing, experience the 13 mile loop through Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area - it's to the west of the City.   Your whole family can enjoy a concert or a play at the outdoor theater in the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park located within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

If you're a true "local", you probably already know these truths.... but, for those of you who are considering making our very unique City your home,  these tips are for you!

Las Vegas weather - Over and over my clients tell me they're moving here, and many are retiring here because of the Las Vegas weather - or the Las Vegas taxes.   The desert has a stunning natural beauty all its own and living in it has countless benefits but there is usually a period of adjustment for adapting to the climate for most new residents.  Dry eyes, dry skin, constant thirst
•
Always carry water with you - and drink plenty of it - seriously
•  Many of us don't like the taste of Las Vegas water and use reverse osmosis or filters for our drinking water

•This is the desert so you see some grass but many locals are incorporating drought resistent landscaping and more decorate rocks and less grass.

•With approximately 5,000 people moving to Las Vegas each month, leaving their friends and family behind, there are a lot of newcomers reaching out to make new friends.  There are a lot of fun, friendly, happy people here in Las Vegas - seems like the sunny weather influences moods?

•Be prepared - You'll have lots of visitors - friends and family love to come visit when you live here.

•We love our Mayor.  Oscar Goodman is very dedicated to our area and represents us well.   He's fun, approachable, interesting and very visible.

•Living in a City that caters strongly to hospitality and tourism has it's advantages for locals as well as visitors.  There are deals, deals and more deals!  Las Vegas casinos are a source of shows, food and fun, with special deals for locals and seniors.  Gambling is part of the fun for some - just be sure that you don't gamble more than you can afford to lose.  Look around - if you gamble, you're paying for all of this opulence!   Seriously, it can be a problem so be very careful.

Of course, no place is perfect.

•We have our share of drivers who exhibit a degree of "road rage".
•And when I first moved to Las Vegas, I learned very quickly to wait after my light had turned green for 2 to  5 cars who must not have noticed that their light was red.  Wait or get hit.
•Watch for visitors who are lost in the visuals of the Las Vegas instead of watching the road.
•Car licensing and insurance in Las Vegas are higher here than many places
•In some areas, Las Vegas public transportation is barely adequate to nonexistent.
•We have three to four months of "bad" weather - hot weather, sometime in May through August.  But it's "dry" heat (smile).  Its the desert.   And you won't have to shovel snow if you live in Las Vegas - how  nice is that!
