In 1994, never having been to Las Vegas in my life, I moved here. Of course I had a preconceived idea about what it would be - most of what I had heard about it was Las Vegas Conventions and Casinos, the
entertainment in Las Vegas and of course, stories about
getting married in Las Vegas. Well, I moved to Las Vegas and learned there is so much more to Las Vegas then being the Entertainment Capital of the World!
Stastics are that less than 5% of visitors never leave The Strip so of course when we consider relocating to Las Vegas, many times it's a surprise to see the wonderful and "normal" (smile) Las Vegas communities just minutes from the hotels.
After my move to Las Vegas, when I first drove around the Valley, the energy was palpable. It was exhilarating and I felt like I had come home. In fact, everywhere that I ventured, I felt that energy - Henderson, Summerlin. I was surprised by the number of places to worship in Las Vegas, art galleries and even an Las Vegas Art District! In 1994, and really up until the downturn in 2007, our growth was amazing - huge numbers of people moving in to the Valley - Moving to Henderson, Summerlin, Las Vegas.
One thing that´s really important to me as a Las Vegas Realtor, especially in Las Vegas, is sharing excitement of newness, the opportunity, the possibilities for everyone; those of you looking forward to retirement in Las Vegas, others who are here to start over. As with any City, different communities have different personalities, and Las Vegas has something for just about everyone - from Las Vegas condos - low-rise to luxury high-rise condos, to
Las Vegas Master Planned Communities, Henderson Master-Planned Communities, Las Vegas golf course communities, vacant land. Because of the nature of a city that is growing so fast, people tend to be friendly, open to making a new circle of friends, reaching out.
Having recently moved to Las Vegas, I had a lot of empathy for newcomers who knew nothing at all about Las Vegas. That was my experience when I moved here. It was amazing how quickly newcomers are accepted by "the locals". Many find the diversity of cultures here very appealing, the colorful personalities, the characters, the entrepreneurs - new ideas are applauded! This tends to be the general spirit of our area. Even with the growth and size of the area, it´s a very small town in many respects.
Another thing, there is no "going to the City" to shop in Las Vegas. There are some great malls, a lot of strip malls with great shopping in developed areas. Freeways have spread around the City - actually almost completely surrounding the Valley Floor, significantly shortening the trip from one side of the valley to the other.
There are so many wonderful Las Vegas restaurants - choosing a "favorite" is very difficult. The entertainment is never-ending, concerts, shows, hiking, rodeo, NASCAR, skiing, fun places to travel in every direction by car and, of course McCarron International Airport. Be sure to check out Art In the Park in Boulder City the first weekend of October.
And then there's the Las Vegas weather. And no mosquitoes! Well, rarely. Of course, as soon as I said that to a client, he got a bite. Oh no! But coming from a wet, cold climate, and now being able to sit outside, having a home where the outside is an extension of our living area most of the year. That's delicious!
I know, I know. No place is perfect. But can you tell I love this place? I could go on...
